should know to keep yourself safe. Canoeing and kayaking is a lot of fun,
but if you don’t know the dangers, you could get into trouble on the water.
Here are some tips for keeping dry and steering clear of problems:
Entering a Canoe:
- Have someone hold the canoe steady.
- Crouch low with your knees bent.
- Grab the sides of the canoe for balance as you walk to your
seat.
- Walk along the center-line of the canoe to your seat.

Entering a Kayak:
- Place kayak partially in the water.
- Grab the sides and step in to the cockpit.
- Sit down in the seat and place your feet on the braces.
- Push off the shoreline with your paddle.

Using a Canoe or Kayak:
- Always wear your life vest or personal flotation device.

- Stay with your canoe or kayak.
- Try to secure the paddle safely .
- Paddle or push your vessel to the shoreline.
- Empty the water by turning the canoe on it's side.

the hole at the end.
